Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and hot
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the hot melted butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar. Whisk vigorously for 1 minute to begin dissolving the sugar.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the mixture. Whisk for another 2 minutes until the batter lightens in color and reaches a ribbony consistency.
  4. Stir in the sifted cocoa powder until the mixture is dark, glossy, and fully incorporated.
  5. Using a silicone spatula, gently fold in the all-purpose flour and sea salt until just a few streaks of white remain. Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and level the top. Bake for 22–25 minutes. Remove from the oven when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
